Hi all,

Super excited to announce the release of my new EP A Marker and a Map, which will be released on Hide and Seek records on Monday 26th March. It will be available from the SHOP link on this page, along with itunes. I’m playing two launch gigs with a FULL BAND in Leeds (23rd March) and London (28th March), it’d be great to see some of you down at one of them.

Season’s Greetings

Hi all,

Just a little news round up, and a thank you for all the amazing support I’ve had in 2011. I’ve genuinely been overwhelmed by the reaction from everyone – from all the radio plays, the Maida Vale session, the great gigs and people I’ve met at each one, and everyone who has bought the records, thank you so much.

To round off an amazing year, The Blackout has also been chosen by Bethan Elfyn as BBC Radio Wales’ “Track Of The Year”, which I can’t quite believe as it came top ahead of some amazing bands like the Manic Street Preachers and Los Campesinos. You can listen to her countdown here:

Also, I recorded a Christmas video for the wonderful Leeds project Anthologies who are raising money for Simon On The Streets, a charity offering street-based support to the homeless. It’s a cover of In The Bleak Midwinter, which goes into a couple of verses I wrote myself entitled If You Get Lonely This Christmas. You can view it below, and please DONATE via the following link:

So – live shows are all done for this year, but already some good stuff gonna be happening in the new year – a new EP in Feb/March (release plans coming soon!), hopefully will be doing some touring, and also a first TV appearance on Channel 4.

That’s all for now, as always keep checking the ‘live’ tab for new tour dates, some new ones for 2012 there already.

Merry Christmas/Nadolig Llawen,

Sam Airey session on BBC Radio 1!

Hope you’re all well on this Sunday afternoon….

As I’m sure many of you will know already, I was lucky enough to be asked to record a session at Maida Vale studios for BBC Radio One, which myself and cellist Emma did back in September. It was broadcast earlier this week and will be available to listen to for the next few days via the following link…

We also made a video diary of us exploring the studios which was filmed by my brother Tom. You can view it below…

That’s all for now, keep checking the ‘live’ tab for new tour dates. Huge thanks to Huw Stephens for having us on the show!

Kirkstall Abbey – Anthologies Film

Good afternoon…

For those who were unable to make it, and equally for those who were present – you can now view the single launch gig we held earlier in the year in the grounds of Kirkstall Abbey in its 35 minute entirety. Filmed and edited beautifully by Anthologies, I’d like to thank them and everyone involved for making it an amazing day and documenting it so wonderfully.

Watch it below, or on the Anthologies website

BBC Maida Vale

Hi all,

This week, myself and cellist Emma were lucky enough to be asked to play a session in BBC Maida Vale for Huw Stephens on Radio One. It was an amazing experience for us – there will be a video diary coming soon, and I will let you know when it’s due for broadcast.

News

So firstly – a big thanks to all who have bought the single so far! I’m very pleased to say we sold out of the physical copies within just a few days of the release.

You can still download it directly from me via the link below, or alternatively on itunes –

I’ve also been truly overwhelmed by the radio support given to the single, it has been played on BBC Radio 1, Radio 2, 6Music, and Radio Wales. Big thanks to Bethan Elfyn, Huw Stephens, Steve Lamacq, and Adam Walton for all of this.

So looking forwards now – there is a new EP finished, which will be released towards the end of the year. More details on the release will be available here very soon. Can’t wait for the Willy Mason show in Sheffield next week, he was great in Wakefield a couple months ago, and this one is already sold out so it should be a good one.

Finally, I’ve been asked to join Huw Stephens for a Maida Vale session for BBC Radio 1 in late September. Excited! Will let you all know when it’s due for broadcast.

Radio plays…

So there’s just a couple of weeks until my first single “The Blackout” is released. Along with the B-side “Endless Sea”, it’s been getting some good radio plays already, including a lot of attention from BBC Radio Wales which I’m most grateful for. Many thanks to Bethan Elfyn, Adam Walton and Frank Hennessy for their support.

You can listen to Bethan’s excellent Saturday show via the following link –

Also, most pleased to have received my first ever BBC Radio One play by their wonderful supporter of new music, Huw Stephens. You can check out the tracklist and listen again via the link below. Exciting times.

New single/launch gig

Hi all,

Just though I’d give a heads up with some news and forthcoming happenings.

Firstly, here’s a bit of info on my new single “The Blackout”

The Blackout is the new single from Leeds-based indie-folk artist Sam Airey, produced by Whiskas (Forward Russia/DTTR) and released on 18th July 2011. The single (along with B-side Endless Sea) will be available digitally, along with a super-limited run of 50 hand-stamped and packaged numbered CDs. Coinciding with this, Sam will play an intimate launch show in Kirkstall Abbey, an ancient ruined Cistercian monastery in the north-west of Leeds.

Physical copies will be available from http://samaireymusic.bandcamp.com, but for now you can stream it (and Endless Sea too) here – http://soundcloud.com/samairey

The single launch, curated by Anthologies, will be a completely unplugged affair held inside the actual ruin at Kirskstall Abbey on the afternoon of the 16th July, and filmed for the Anthologies website.

Support comes from Adam Killip (The Tailors) and Belleville. More info here – http://anthologiesleeds.com/live/
